Teaching new mums how to cook healthy, tasty food on a budget.

TheÌýgovernment have recently announced that cookery lessons in secondary schools are toÌýbecome compulsory for children aged 11 to 14. The hope is that they’ll learn more about food types, be able to cook simple recipes and be better prepared for adult life. But education they say starts at home. Uncertainty about where our food comes from, what’s in it and how best to cook it isn’t confined to kids in the classroom and a project in South Manchester, called Yummy Mummies, is teaching new mums how to cook healthy, tasty food on a budget. The weekly group allows the women to make new friends, get midwife-led advice, and it's hoped, pass on their new-found passion for food to their children. Helen Surtees joined the Yummy Mummies and spoke to the groups’ founders; National Childbirth Trust antenatal teacher Alison Lloyd and midwife Sue McAuliffe.
