ReducingÌýinfection rates among women of HIV and AIDS in Africa
As World AIDS Day 2007 approaches, Woman’s Hour discusses the continuing fight against HIV and AIDS in Africa. Do programmes which advocate sexual abstinence help? Or is part of the answer to reduce the number of sexual partners each person has?
Jane discusses the issues with Helen Epstein, author of ‘The Invisible Cure – Africa, the West and the fight against AIDS' to assess some of the initiatives and ask what can be done to reduce infection rates in Africa.ÌýÌý She is also joined by Musa Njoko, a singer songwriter from South Africa, who was one of the first women in the country to publicly declare her HIV+ status and who now campaigns for HIV and Aids awareness, education and training.
‘The Invisible Cure - Africa, The West and the Fight against AIDS' by Helen Epstein is published by Viking, ISBN 978-0-670-91356-5.
