Who should decide whether it is right to perform a hysterectomy on a severely disabled teenager?
Katie Thorpe听is the 15-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who hit the headlines last year when听her mother, Alison听asked a hospital in Essex to give her a daughter a hysterectomy.听She wanted听Katie听to avoid the "pain, discomfort and indignity" of menstruation. But the hospital has formally rejected her request, saying they would only operate if there was a medical reason for doing so.听Alison has said she will听pursue the matter. She joins Jane along with Liz Sayce, Chief Executive of RADAR, to talk about听the difficult decisions involved in caring for a severely disabled child.
