A poppy
How a mother coped when her son was seriously injured in Afghanistan.

On 12th September 2006, Diane Dernie received the knock on the door that every mother with a听child in the army dreads. Her son, Lance Bombadier Ben Parkinson, had been severely injured by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan and no-one expected him to survive. He did though, but with serious brain damage and long terms injuries, including the loss of both his legs. Jane talks to Diane Dernie about how she coped and about her fight to increase the compensation that he was awarded by the Government.
