Ìý After-school hunger 20 Mar 2006 Ìý
It's four o'clock, and the children come home from school.ÌýThey claim to be starving, and raid the biscuit tin and the cupboard for thoseÌýunhealthy crisps and snacks.

At a time when childhood obesity is on the rise, snacking is not a good idea.ÌýAnd lying behind the after school snack is the broader issue of the decline of the traditional family mealtime.ÌýChildren are increasingly eating what they want, when they want.

Between 4 and 7pm, is a difficult time for parents – the gap between school and their return from home.ÌýBut is after-school hunger symbolic of a hunger for parental attention?ÌýIf so, what can parents do about it, at least in culinary terms?
