Piqued Peacock
Percy the peacock has ruffled the feathers of councillors once too often.

The jealous bird has wreaked havoc on cars belonging to workers with Newark and Sherwood District Council in Nottinghamshire. He has launched several attacks after mistaking his reflection for a rival.

A number of vehicles have been left with scratches and holes, and the council's insurers have refused to meet any more damage claims. Councillors were worried that the spring could see more attacks as Percy and his mate have two male chicks due to start the courting ritual.

Percy and his brood are now being moved to a peacock sanctuary before they can cause any more damage.

The peacocks were originally given to the district council because they'd been causing a noise nuisance at their previous location. The hope was that they'd feel more at home in the 40-acre grounds of Kelham Hall, the authority's headquarters.

Councillor Nora Armstrong said the birds would now be caught and transferred to another site in Nottinghamshire where they could roam free and cause no damage.
