There's Something About Lego!

The Queen will be doing her bit for British tourism and visiting Legoland in Windsor.

As part of our contribution to highlighting the important role lego plays in British society and tourism, we invited one of the UK's top 3 lego builders into the studio.

Duncan Titmarsh is well versed in the 'art' of lego. He owns hundreds of sets (most of which are stored in his loft) and is currently working on lego model of a stately home in Wales measuring 4ft, by 2.5ft, by 2.5ft.

We set him the task of building a lego model of the Today studio whilst we were on air.

The Queen's trip to Legoland is just part of a day-long series of events involving the Royal Family.

In all, 10 royals will be visiting attractions in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Host venues will include museums, pubs, a tea shop, a caravan park, a youth hostel, and a coastal path.

At Legoland, close to Windsor Castle, the Queen will be able to cast a critical eye over a model version of her London home, Buckingham Palace.

An official said the day had been arranged to underline the importance of tourism to the national economy and to highlight how much the UK had to offer people from home and abroad.

Such a publicity drive is timely. Last week it was announced there'd been a sharp fall in April in the number of foreign tourists coming here. The decline was blamed on the SARS outbreak and the war in Iraq.
