"For me science isn't a subject, it's a perspective. There are fascinating scientific aspects to everything from ancient history to the latest gadgets, outer space to interior decorating; and each week on The Material World we try to reflect the excitement, ideas, uncertainties, collisions and collaborations as science continues its never-ending voyage into the unknown".

Ghost Ship
An unmanned ship has been circumnavigating the British Isles.听 This traditional boat has been fitted with innovative technology to allow it to independently navigate.听 Grant Hearn, leader of the engineering team at Southampton University that听fitted out听the boat, explains how it was done.听
Quentin is also joined by Keith Henderson from MRV International to find out how their robotic vessels without crew can help foil piracy and protect our coasts.
Mongolian Biodiversity
Przewalski's horses, previously classed as extinct, have been successfully reintroduced to the wild. So say a working group of Mongolian and international scientists, who have recommended that these odd-looking equids should now be regarded as merely endangered.
Jonathon Baillie from London Zoo听was part of that working group.听 He is joined by Eleanor Milner-Gulland,听leader of the听Imperial College Conservation Science group, to explain the issues of managing Central Asia's magnificent biodiversity.
