A showcase of local musicians took place on Friday 16 May as World On Your Street hit the New Vic Theatre. The event was live on 成人快手 Radio Stoke and included link-ups with musicians across the world, from an Iraqi musician currently in Cairo to a samba school in Sao Paulo. There were lively drumming and vocal workshops throughout the day.

ZIMBABWEAN DUO
Don and Nash have only been singing together for six months, but their a capella harmonies were a big hit with the audience. The song 'Sho Sho Losa' has become widely known as a theme tune for South African rugby. Listen.

THE BOAT BAND
This local band started the day with some rousing English folk music. They feature Greg Stephens on guitar, Kate Barfield on violin, and both Tony Weatherall and Mark Burke on melodian. Their first tune was as local as you can get: the Stoke Hornpipe. Listen.

KURDISH FOLK
The Stoke area is host to a growing community of Kurdish refugees, who've brought with them a vibrant musical culture. Three local Kurdish musicians, Kamaran Hamasalah, Karwan Wahab, and Mariwon Ibrahim performed live at the New Vic. Listen.
