A favourite song:

'The Raga Kalyani' is an evening Raga. The composition is about the Dancing God, Natarajah in Chidamparam, Tamil Nadu, South India. It tells of a devotee who has attained peace by being present in front of the Statue of Natarajah, how he was transfixed and spell-bound by Natarajah's appearance and light. So inspired was he, that he overcame all his worldly attachments. By ridding himself of his dark past and karma, he was raised to a higher state of happiness or 'anantham.

templeNatarajah is a form of Shiva, the Lord of the Dance. He's also the God of the London Shivan Centre where his statue portrays him as he lifts his left foot in the air to dance the cosmic dance.

I love this beautiful composition because it reminds me of all of those dark corners in our hearts into which we must allow the light. Perhaps through the music of these devotional poems, we can pray away away these dark spots. The composition begins with 'Kanden Kali Theemthen' and is set to Adi Thala which is a cycle of 8 beats.
