Where I Play:

We sing a lot of folk songs at home. We tell stories and watch videos of various events like my sister's wedding back home, my father's investiture as Chief Sagwe and the children still find them interesting. They go back home to Nigeria at least every one-and-a-half years.

Oludele Olaseinde In Liverpool we have quite a large Nigerian community, and in particular a Yoruba community as well. But everybody's a bit disjointed, so it's more of every family for themselves. When there are events like birthday parties, people come together. For instance last February, my orchestra - the River Niger Orchestra - performed for the Nigerian High Commissioner at the opening of the Nigerian Community Association here. What we try to do musically (with the band) is we play music from all parts of Nigeria and West Africa as a whole.
