Why is this still a popular song despite the success of Slade's stompin' hits?

Tiina from Oulu/Finland I just love this song! Slade has the best rock'n'roll songs but this one is very different and very very beautiful. Not too slow or sissy, just perfect. Noddy's voice is gorgeous. I could marry this song! :D
Lee Stanley : Bilston, West Mids Slade were undoubtedly responible for some of pops classic moments, especially from the 1970's. Sadly, apart from some of the more well known "footstompers", some other Slade singles now sound slightly dated. This couldn't be said about "Everyday", it still sounds as fresh as a proverbial daisy, and didn't sound out of place alongside more up to date songs in Dom Joly's recent TV series. It has everything a classic pop song should have, and apart from Ultravox's "Vienna" is one of the best songs never to hit the top of the UK hit-parade.
Andy : Pilton 成人快手 of Glast Fest Just about the greatest band, delivering good-time music in good time fashion. Like most of the comments here, the most UNDERATED band ever. Sadly Glastonbury Festival was'nt big in the 70's so they've never played there but it would be fantastic if they could put just one more show on for all their fans.
Mucky Cardiff Wales Slade were and still are an integral part of my life, I grew up with slade. I saw them many times from 1973 in the largest venue Cardiff had to offer to just recently at a small theatre in Swansea.
They are just brilliant live.
The musical ability of each of the group members Nod Dave Jim and Don was unbelievable.Songs were great, my favourites are "How does it feel", "Far Far away" and "In for a penny", "Banging man" and it's fabulous B side "She did it to me"
I have 2 wishes.
1. Slade would be recognised for something other than Merry xmas.
2.Nod and Jim would play just 1 concert with Dave and Don.
Just one !!
I was listening to Nod the other day and he mentioned something about him doing an unplugged gig alone ??
Cum on Nod get the boyz involved toooo !!
Muck
"There's gonna be some rocking and rolling in Cardiff tonight"
NHOLDER 1973
Pete Fenelon, York Slade showing that they're not always "crazee now" - bit of an anthem, bit of a ballad, wave the lighters in the air lads!
Fay, Leeds i first got into Slade from my dad (being only a teen myself) who has all the albums stored where he thinks i can't find them to steal. everyday is my favourite slade song closely followed by Still The Same as it is simply so beautiful and can be realted to by almost anyone whilst not making its lyrics too complicated so you can remember them.
John boy from essex Noddy please re unite the original band.
U would fill the new Wembley stadium.
John ,Wickford ,essex Wot a fantastic song
It should be re released in 2006
pete lincoln slade were a great band, either playing there classic glam rock songs or there sing-a-long ballads,i would of loved to see them live.
Les Little Paisley I think Ambrose Slade was the NAME of the secretary. Everyday was written to replace `Darlin Be 成人快手 Soon` as the ballad in their concerts. As Noddy once said `If we have to play a slow song it might as well be one of our own.` I first caught the Slade bug in 1970 when a friend played me the first `SLADE` album..Play it Loud.. and I have been a fan ever since.I have heard the Ambrose Slade album but have never been able to get hold of a copy. I`m still trying.
Pete Cogley Basking Ridge NJ USA This is one killer ballad sung with gusto.
Great song to sing with a pint in your hand too.
Growing up in Australia I loved Slade Man BRING THEM BACK ALL GLAMMED UP,.
Great memories of them live atthe Melbourne Show Grounds
Jamie, Stirling A band not given the credit they deserved, great fun songs, which music is all about. Sung with the gentle vocal style of Mr Holder!
keith - ashford nod was god for me, still is in actual fact. A truelly homourable guy without a bad word for anyone.
"Everyday" deserves to be up there but then so do many others. The bass riff in "comon feel the noize", the pure musical genius of "how does it feel", the building rhythm in "goodbye t'jane".Who will every forget "merry xmas". Slade summed up the atmosphere of the time, having a good honest time, my how we could do with that now!
Someone somewhere put together a dvd of slade live, bottle the energy and the atmosphere and make yourself a fortune.
The notes on "Slade Alive " say it all, for slade fans there were none before and none after.
keep on rockin !
Keith,Wolverhampton A decent enough song though for me not in the top ten Slade records,in because it suits the the easy going nature of the music on radio2.Little known fact is that Jimmy Lea(co-writer) did not want it to be released as a single. Great band though.
Graham Parker - Somerton i was in the Royal Navy at the time 'Everyday' was in the charts, and i was away from my girlfriend,( she has been my wife for the past 29yrs) we were away from each other for long periods of time, so, this song, became one of 'our songs' and still is today So i need say little more about how we both feel about this Classic, other than, "everyday while i was away".......... Thanks Noddy, absolutely wonderful
Glenn Braybrook Chewton , Australia Slade were such a great band, they wrote all sorts of songs and Noddy Holder could sing anything, from the most powerfull over the top rock n roll to something like this song. What an amazing talent and voice he has got. All the members of Slade combined to make them the most powerfull and best live band ever, they would blow anybody off the stage. What a great band, and what a nice song was "Everyday"...Glenn Braybrook
John from Belfast A band that hit its prime with selling its soul from a everlasting seasonal track. Abysmal, utter twaddle.
Alan - Wolverhampton U.K. Great band, miss the live shows and music. The best, and from my home town too!
Paul Edmundson bolton its a great song and deserves some recognition and so will never be forgotten by any slade fan anywhere. it has a great beat all the way through which makes you want to sing allong while you have it on a high volume.
Blakey,Cardiff Brilliant song, one of many. Slade's songs are timeless, to see then live was incredible not many bands could match them
Phil , Leeds Even though I think "How does it feel?" is a better song, Slade were underrated.
Perhaps people who didn't know them thought they were clowns because of the glam thing, or one trick ponys because of the stomp thing.
tim elford somerset Everyday was the first single Slade took from an l.p Old ,new borrowed and Blue. It was my first L.P and it blew my socks off. Slade were and still are one of the best groups the u.k has produced. There songs are timeless.
Josie-Wetherby I was 13 when 'Everyday' hit the charts & I rembember standing on a chair to get closer to the speakers at my local youth club when it came on!! Loads of emotion in the lyrics & Noddy's voice, it meant a lot to me as a teenager & it still makes me cry when I hear it now.
Alastair Belfast I loved Slade's earlier songs, especially Cum On Feel The Noise. For me, they weren't as good from My Friend Stan (Autumn 1973) onwards as they lost a lot of their energy and excitement. I think they tried to appeal to a wider range of people and in doing so lost many of their original fans.
Dave Kemp This record showed a more sophisticated Slade. The fans loved it, but I think the general public were unsure as it wasn't the "usual" Slade..
aj whitney stafford Everyday was released by public demand, the lp Old New Borrowed and Blue had already been #1 in the lp charts ! this was the first time Slade released a single from an album.
Maureen Isle of Wight As an exiled Midlander I love Slade but cannot see how they have made this chart with this song !!!!
Mark /High Wycombe Great melodies, Holder and Lea new how to write great tunes. Iam utterley amazed they do not get more credit/Radio play.
Everday is a simple pop song delivered by a real rock band it has all that is required of a hit record.
From a pure musical pont of view "How does it feel" is in a differnt leaugue and shows that the band could have gone on to even greater success. Would love them to do one more tour album say a UK tour with Kiss.
Phil the Noize, Brussels, Belgium the first Slade single I bought. I was nine and some months later I had the chance to see Slade alive at Forest National in Brussels. Man,it was magic. Couldn't believe my eyes...and my ears.
The B-side of that single is pretty good too: Good Time Gals
Jos茅 Alem谩n, Canarias Still it's my favorite for sing at my daughter of 2 years now. Fantastic, like everything of Slade. We want LIVE DVD'S OF SLADE!!! we are very much people for Slade, why not?
Colin Launder, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire Slade wgere the Greatest, Nod and Jim the most under estimated song writers of the 70,s, Nod the best voice in rock bar None. KOR. Glad I am a fan it makes Life more complete.
Dave Jewell Brilliant, fantastic, So different from there previous hits, Slade were full of suprises...Probably the best live act this country ever seen.
Jane, Bala, N Wales I love SLADE they were just fanstastic, "Everyday" still makes my heart skip a beat, it realy was a top song. We should hear more of them on the radio, not just at xmas.
Dave Howe, Phoenix, Arizona USA Sure, "Everyday" is a bit corny, but it's a great melody, and not to be taken too seriously. This song was one of the band's favorites and they kept this ballad in their live set for over a decade, and let the fans do most of the singing. I still love to listen to Old New Borrowed and Blue, and that album shows Slade's diversity, and the brillant song writing of Holder and Lea. By the way, Slade has to be THE most underrated band of all time, and Noddy Holder's voice has never been equalled.
Ian E = The Slade Archive Because they were great and could write and carry a tune.
RANDALLiZM/Bruges/Belgium For me is HOW DOES IT FEEL one of the best songs ever written. If you might realise what would have become of SLADE,if they had chosen
for more this direction, instead of the hardrock/metal renaissance....With EVERYDAY,also one of their best,SLADE proved they could go on in every style or direction.
Just like the real toppers (Stones/Beatles/U2/
Peppers etc) But from 1976 on SLADE's management did a very very bad job!
Craig Storey, reading Because it was so differant to what they were doing at the time, and plus it's Nod's natural voice
Ilpo Bister, Helsinki "Everyday" I've listened Slade classics since 1972, and the appeal of "Everyday" is based on the magnificiently great, (L. Lea/) J. Lea/N. Holder harmonic melody lines, and the VOICE of course without forgetting the unique driving force of the way the band played. "Their songs were simply far better than anyone else's" - Toyah.
Alexander The Great, RUSSIA Everyday is song what shows the real songwriting power & ability of team Holder-Lea. Its melody sends shivers down my spine. Slade isn't only a stomping rock, their ballads rule and Nod's throat is brilliant in case of Slade ballad.
Dave, West Springfield, Mass., USA The chord progression is as simple as Let It Be-Beatles. It is contagious and wonderful.
It is what a universal love song is meant to be.
Chris .Aldridge. Everyday was one of the highlights of Slade's live act and is remembered with a great deal of affection by the groups army of fans.Ballads were not such an unknown quantity to fans...listen to the B sides of their singles and you will hear classics such as "She Did It To Me" a song full of teenage angst if ever their was one.
Bob Dooley, Vancouver WA (USA) "Everyday" remains popular because even the hardest core fans of what I call "sonic-blitz" rock n' roll, as produced by Slade, want to hear a nice ballad now and then. For the same reason, the band also scored a big hit (even in the U.S.!!) with "My Oh My". Way to go, Noddy, Jim, Dave & Don!
Anthony, London, UK A brilliant song, one of the best ever. I cannot understand why it only peaked at #3 in 1974, when it should have been #1.
barry kettering slade do not get the credit they deserve they were not just about glam rock and shouting
michael briggs Idaho Falls USA Slade very rarely get the credit they deserve. They have to have been one of the best bands ever and in Noddy Holder they certainly had one of rocks unique voices
Colin Grant - Basildon Although "Everyday" is an excellent song, I believe they went one better with "How Does It Feel". Slade were probably on the slippery slope from the top of their success when this came out, hence the lack of high rating, but to me, it's their top tune.
Andy Robson - Easington, Co Durham I'm chuffed to see a Slade track in the top 100. We can all name many artists who fit the description "over-rated", but Slade are the exact opposite - a talented song-writing team(Holder/Lea), a catalogue of top-ten hits, and they could actually play, but no-one seems to give them the respect they richly deserve.
They were the Beatles of the seventies, and as Everyday shows, every bit as capable of writing brilliant ballads - so come on Radio2, Play More Slade...
Hugh Pinnington / Liverpool This is the strangest entry on any chart of any kind I have ever seen! Slade in the top 10 of the best songs of all time!!! Otherwise I enjoyed the shoe immensely. Thank you.
Ian Edmundson - The Slade Archive The UK album this song is taken from is 'Old new borrowed and blue'. This song is where Slade audibly grew up.
Isabel Beasley A wonderful song by a much underrated group. As much ledgends as T,Rex
Michael Anderson, Whitehead Seeing this song in the top ten has made my day...no, my year!
Slademoni " Everyday" was the beginn from a new style from SLADE. SLADE got more melodic in the future.
I love SLADE !!!
Keep on rockin`
Chris,Bloxwich. A well deserved top 10 placing for a group that is often overlooked. The song writing talents of Holder and Lea produced 6 number one records and numerous top 10 45s and albums,These facts alone shoud get them more recognition but then take into account that they were one of the greatest live groups that the UK has ever produced and it is almost shameful that more recognition is not more forthcoming.
The group still has one of the most fanatical fan bases around today.
KOR
mark of Bude Well deserved,a truly great band, overlooked by all the music media, especially the Yanks, you dont become as successful as SLADE without being VERY talented,i for one LOVE 'em!!
