Educating Nigeria
What is being done to get children into school
Every Nigerian child has the constitutional right to free and compulsory primary education, and free secondary education, yet there remains a huge gap between that law and the reality. One in every five of the world鈥檚 out-of-school children lives in Nigeria. In a nation with one of the world鈥檚 youngest populations, this lack of access to education could potentially cost the country its future. It鈥檚 government recently acknowledged that there are 10.5 million children not being educated. Education officials have blamed cultural factors, nomadic communities, the dangers of kidnappings by separatist groups such as Boko Haram, and the poor state of the economy. Critics point to a lack of funding. 成人快手 Africa journalist Yemisi Adegoke sets out to meet parents and children at the sharp end of this crisis, discover more about what is being done to get children into school and ask the difficult questions to those in power.
