Oumy Gueye is a pioneer – a female rapper from Senegal, determined to pave the way for other female artists and to use her lyrics to talk about female empowerment.
She has tackled subjects including domestic violence and rape, underage pregnancy and female genital mutilation.
She also sings, and is known by her initials OMG, because, as she tells TIA, a friend told her every time he heard her voice he would think "Oh my God, how beautiful!"
Her first single, Hey Girl, was released in 2013, and since then she’s dropped three EPs and an album and has won several prizes.
