India approves ‘anti-Muslim’ citizenship law
The news came as protests against the bill raged in north-eastern states bordering Bangladesh.
India's parliament has approved a bill that grants citizenship to non-Muslim illegal immigrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan; a Jewish supermarket in New Jersey was the target of a gun attack which left six people dead including two suspected assailants, say officials; and in Brussels, the European Commission - the EU executive - has announced ambitious environmental proposals to cut the bloc's dependency on fossil fuels.
