Hong Kong's Legislative Council postpones second reading of extradition bill

Local politician Emily Lau said the Speaker would reconvene the Council at a later date.

The authorities in Hong Kong have delayed the second reading of a controversial bill allowing extradition to mainland China as thousands of protesters blockaded the city centre.

In Sudan the general strike in protest at the military crackdown has been called off - some prisoners will be released in return.
