Frequently asked questions about Radio 1's Big Weekend in Derry~Londonderry
Is it too late to get a ticket?
Booking for Radio 1’s Big Weekend Derry~Londonderry has now closed and all available tickets have been allocated. We’re sorry if you missed out this year – the demand for tickets was again huge and we were not able to give them to everyone hoping to go.
If you weren’t lucky in getting tickets, you’ll be able to enjoy extensive coverage of the weekend across , , and .

What are the age restrictions for the event?
There is no age limit for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 1’s Big Weekend Derry~Londonderry, however if you are under 16 you must be accompanied by a responsible person who is at least 18 years old. You may be asked for ID if you look under 16.
Bars at the event will be operating a ‘Challenge 25’ policy. If bar staff feel you look under the age of 25 they will ask you to provide photo ID with proof that you are over the age of 18.
Children under two years old do not need a ticket, but those two and over will need one. Please bear in mind that this is an outdoor event, with loud music and large crowds expected – it is not an event designed for young children.
What time does the event start and finish?
Doors will open around 3pm on Friday 24 May and around 12 noon on both Saturday and Sunday, 25 & 26 May.
The event finishes around midnight on Friday and around 11.00pm on Saturday and Sunday.
When will I get my tickets?
Tickets will be sent out in early May to the address you provided when booking and we cannot change this. Tickets are printed with a unique barcode, which is scanned at the entrance to the event. They are fully traceable and we can cancel them at any time by invalidating the barcode.

What happens if my tickets don’t arrive?
If your tickets have not arrived by Wednesday 15th May you can request replacements by calling the number in your Ticket Confirmation email – however this must be done by 5pm on Monday 20th May or we will be unable to help.
Your original tickets will be cancelled and the barcode on them invalidated – this means they will not give you entry to the event. In order to collect your replacement tickets you will need to provide Photo ID or the credit/debit card used to make the booking plus proof you live at the address used when booking - for example a driving licence or utility bill.
Can I buy a ticket?
Tickets for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 1’s Big Weekend Derry~Londonderry are free and we work with those running major auction websites and sales outlets to have posts offering tickets for sale or trade removed – although, since posts do not need to be approved before appearing, we cannot stop them being advertised in the first place.
Please do not risk buying tickets. Those offering tickets for sale are breaking the Terms & Conditions they agreed to during the booking process and we reserve the right to cancel them.
You should also be aware that in the past some people have claimed their tickets have failed to arrive and cancelled them, ordering replacements. They have then offered the original tickets for sale; with those buying them not realising they are worthless until they turn up at the event on the day.
There is a high probability that any tickets offered for sale for the event will have been cancelled and will not gain entry to the event.
Can I swap my tickets with a friend who has tickets for a different day?
Your tickets are personal to you – they feature your name and address. You can swap tickets with a friend, but do so at your own risk. We will not issue replacement tickets if the ones your friend gives you are invalid for any reason.
What should I wear?
The event takes place on Ebrington Square, with the Main Stage in the open air. The area is paved, so won’t get muddy, but check the weather forecast and bring along suntan lotion, raincoats, jumpers, or all three, accordingly.
Please don’t bring sporting tops – entry will be refused to those wearing football shirts, GAA jerseys and similar clothing. Golf umbrellas, flags, portable chairs and a range of other items are also not permitted –
Can I bring food and drink into the event?
No food or drink can be taken into the site – with the exception of personal supplies of water in a plastic container with an unbroken seal (up to 500 ml per person), or special medical supplies (please bring a Doctor’s note if these are not obviously medicinal).
Food and alcohol will be on sale inside the venue, however if you look under 25 please do not be offended if we ask you for proof of age when buying alcohol. The only forms of ID acceptable will be a photo driving licence or a passport.
Can I bring a camera?
Yes, but please be aware professional photography equipment is not allowed and we advise you to leave zoom lenses and other pieces of expensive film/filming equipment at home. Profession recording equipment is prohibited.
What facilities are you providing for disabled people?
The two stages on site will have raised viewing platforms for disabled customer use - please note these platforms are subject to space. There will also be accessible toilet facilities within the site. The site is mainly hard standing and accessible.
If you require to use of any of the disabled facilities on site please go to the Information Point located inside the event site which will be clearly signed posted.
Our stewards at the Information Point will issue you with a wristband which will give you access to the onsite disability facilities. The issuing of wristbands will be at the discretion of our stewards - you do not need to contact us in advance however it would help if you can bring a doctor’s note or similar if your condition is not obvious. Please note that wristbands will not be issued at either of the Information Points outside of the event site.
Please note these facilities are not designed for customers with temporary conditions such as broken legs, or those who are pregnant, but there will be medical and welfare facilities on site for all customers
Disabled Parking: A disabled drop off point will be at St Columb’s Park Leisure Centre along Limavady Road. There will also be disabled parking at St Columba’s Park Leisure Centre car park. These spaces are limited and will be reserved for Blue Badge holders who have booked a parking space in advance. Please email elsa.edwards@derrycity.gov.uk for more details and registration.
How did you decide on the ticket distribution?
Staging this event would be impossible without the co-operation and support of Derry City Council and, as with previous Big Weekends, an element of preference was therefore given to those resident in the local area.
We do understand those who missed out on tickets may feel more should have been reserved for their particular area; unfortunately, with so many people hoping to attend, no distribution method would have been able to satisfy everybody.
Where can I watch and listen to coverage of the event?
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 1’s Big Weekend Derry~Londonderry will be broadcast across ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ and, , on the, as well as via the red button from ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Digital TV channels.
