What is the future for New Road?

Worcestershire County Cricket Club says it is seeking an alternative home ground, to use when future floods cause prolonged damage to their much-loved riverside base.

The club confirmed in a statement that the first matches of the 2025 season will go ahead as planned at New Road, but a variety of issues mean that an additional venue of some kind, which is not Chester Road in Kidderminster, will be needed for future planning.

Worcestershire said how some of those issues of building permanent flood defences included the cost, estimated of upwards of 拢20million, and the fact that whilst a wall might block flood water, it wouldn't prevent water rising through the ground.

Trevor Owens explains the latest with Elliott Webb.
