Why are some people dismissive of Afcon?
A TV debate about Salah鈥檚 talent led to an online spat about the Africa Cup of Nations after former England player Jamie Carragher said it was 鈥榥ot a major tournament鈥�.

That鈥檚 how three-time Afcon winner Wael Goma sums up Jamie Carragher鈥檚 comment that the Africa Cup of Nations is 鈥榥ot a major tournament鈥�.
The former England and Liverpool defender was taking part in a TV discussion about Mohamed Salah鈥檚 chances of winning the Ballon d鈥檕r after Liverpool鈥檚 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.
He said because Salah hadn鈥檛 won a 鈥榤ajor鈥� tournament like the World Cup, Euros or Copa America so he didn鈥檛 have much chance of winning the coveted award for the best player in the world.
But Africa鈥檚 top footballing guns have come out angrily to defend the importance of Afcon.
