50 years of hot water bottles from Loughborough

Some first designs for hot water bottle covers originated from a family in Loughborough.

The hot water bottle was invented over 500 years ago, with the first rubber hot water bottle revolutionising the industry at the turn of the last century.

But did you know that it was an immigrant family that settled in Loughborough who turned out some of the first designs for the ‘modern’ covers that can be found on hot water bottles in homes, hospitals and hotels.

From humble beginnings 50 years ago, the ‘Hot Water Bottle Company’ now manufactures them to be shipped all over the world.

Ben Jackson has been to meet Parisha Patel from the team behind them.

Produced by Pete Wardman.
