'The Army's gay ban led to my mental breakdown'
73-year-old Claire Ashton from Uffington joined the army in 1969 when it was illegal to be gay in the armed forces. Clare says,'They thought I was gay as trans hadn't crossed their radar all those years ago.' Consequently Claire suffered prejudice and abuse during her time in the army.
