Fraudsters are impersonating police to trick people into revealing their financial details. These scams include phone calls, messages and in-person scams. New figures from UK Finance show a worrying trend—scammers posing as police and bank staff accounted for 15% of all scam losses in the first half of 2024, costing victims £32.3 million. If you get a call from someone claiming to be an officer, it can be hard to say no and refuse their requests – but today we help you outsmart the criminals. Detective Marc Cananur explains the things police will NEVER ask you to do, including withdrawing money and handing over private banking details.
