It was the music venue that brought Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Marc Bolan, Captain Beefheart and The Band Of Joy – who would later form Led Zeppelin – to Kidderminster.

It was the music venue that brought Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Marc Bolan, Captain Beefheart and The Band Of Joy – who would later form Led Zeppelin – to Kidderminster.

And yet, for the hundreds every week who would get their kicks just off the A456, in the place John Peel would describe as his favourite small venue, gig nights started as a side hustle for Frank Freeman and his wife Wynn. Originally, their club was a home for ballroom dancing!

Andrew Marston gathers archive interviews and hears memories from gig-goers who still fondly remember being teenagers, experiencing legends playing live, before they hit the big time.

John Peel, the legendary Radio 1 DJ, would go on record to say the venue was his favourite, with fond memories of Wynn Freeman giving bands cucumber sandwiches.

The club no longer exists, but a blue plaque remains on Lower Mill Street, between a French restaurant and a beauty salon.
