‘It’s so wonderful’: Holly Bourne on female friendship in motherhood
Bestselling author Holly Bourne joined Nuala McGovern in the Woman’s Hour studio and spoke about her struggles adjusting to motherhood and why her friends were so important to her at that time.
She said her baby didn’t sleep at all to begin with, to the point where the sleep consultant she’d hired gave her a refund after just three days, because they were ‘baffled’.
But Holly said when she finally spoke to her friends honestly about the difficulties she was having, their support was one of the things that helped her through.
Holly was on the programme to speak about her new novel, So Thrilled For You, which she wrote during that time. It’s all about friendship, motherhood, and societal pressures — set against the backdrop of a high-stakes baby shower.
