Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani who courted controversy
The man behind some of the most distinctive - and controversial - advertising campaigns of recent years, the Italian fashion photographer, Oliviero Toscani, has died at the age of 82. He reached the peak of his fame in the 1990s, with his work for the clothing brand, Benetton.
Among his most eye-catching images were those showing a terribly emaciated anorexic model - he said to decry the fashion industry's demand for painfully thin women - and a man in the death throes from AIDS, at a time when the disease was still heavily stigmatised.
Karrie Jacobs was the founding editor along with Oliviero Toscani, of a magazine Benetton produced back in the early 1990s to go alongside its campaigns.
