Floods - what's the impact of climate and housing?
Major incidents were declared and dozens of people rescued in Leicestershire this week as heavy rains caused severe flooding.
Firefighters in Leicestershire received hundreds of calls on Monday - crews rescued 59 people and evacuated 209 homes in the county.
Back in December 2024 the Environment Agency (EA) said that around eight million properties in England - or one in four - could be at risk of flooding by 2050.
In its first assessment of how a climate change could affect flooding, the EA warned of increasing threats from heavier rainfall and rising sea levels. The number of at-risk properties could be even higher if more houses are built on floodplains, but could be lower if flood defences are improved.
Civil Engineer Alex Romankiw and Climatologist Abi Waring explained to 成人快手 Leicester's Kelly Hinch and Ben Jackson the impact of climate change and new housing when it comes to the risk of flooding.
