A year of marathons
For some people running a marathon is a once in a lifetime goal. For others, it may be the aim for their year. Rare is it for a runner to run a marathon every day for a year.
Yet that is exactly what James Cooper has done – he ran a marathon every single day in 2024 to raise money for Samaritans, a UK charity aimed at providing emotional support.
The personal trainer ran 366 marathons in 366 days – with 2024 being a leap year – totalling a distance of 15,478km (9,618 miles), the equivalent of running from his home in the south of England to Australia.
He raised over $150,000 through donations and just a couple of days after completing the challenges he tells Sportshour’s Katie Smith why he decided to do it and how he’s feeling now his year of marathons is complete.
