London’s Political Year 2024
As political years go here in London, it doesn’t come much bigger than the year we are leaving behind.
2024 has been an election bonanza with Londoners voting in Mayoral and London Assembly elections, which saw Sadiq Khan win an historic third term. That was followed by a snap General Election that saw Labour win a landslide victory that left the Conservative Party with its lowest ever number of MPs in the capital.
Meanwhile local councils in London have been warning of imminent financial collapse as they struggle to cope with the rising cost of combatting homelessness and providing social care.
