Could chemical in red grapes prevent bowel cancer?
Scientists at the University of Leicester are finding out if an ingredient commonly found in grape juice and wine could keep bowel cancer at bay.
The university is leading research into Resveratrol, a naturally occurring ingredient found in grapes, blueberries, raspberries and peanuts, which will be tested as a potential cancer prevention drug.
Previous studies led by Professor Karen Brown at the University of Leicester have found that purified Resveratrol can inhibit the growth of cancer cells in small doses. Research found that Resveratrol can reach the bowel undigested and that it slows down tumour growth in mice and human tissue samples.
Professor Karen spoke to 成人快手 Leicester's Ady Dayman, along with David Trusler who is one of the first patients to take part in the trial.
