Zdeno Chára: From iceman to Ironman
Many retired professional athletes would be happy to take a well-deserved break after retirement, but former ice hockey player Zdeno Chára refuses to stop.
After 24 seasons and 1,680 games in the National Hockey League (NHL), the defenceman swapped his skates and ice hockey stick for endurance sports and he has no plans to slow down.
Chára – who is the tallest person to ever play in the NHL – has completed a number of marathons as well as his first Ironman triathlon in August 2024.
Sportshour’s Caroline Barker spoke to Chára ahead of what could be his toughest challenge yet – the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
