‘My health has declined, it’s dehumanising to live like this’
Congleton resident in battle with Cheshire East Council to adapt her home.
Dr Deborah Lawson is an award winning disability advocate, she uses a wheelchair and has helped thousands of people across the country fight for their rights.
After a devastating fire destroyed her house, she was moved into a new home in Congleton. She says it is too cramped and difficult for her wheelchair to get around. She has been in locked in a battle with Cheshire East Council to adapt it.
Deborah joined ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Stoke’s Lee Blakeman to discuss her eight year fight to find a new house that suits her needs.
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Stoke have contacted Cheshire East Council about Deborah's situation, the council says it has been in contact with Deborah to discuss various options, including potential adaptations to her current property and alternative housing solutions. It says it is making it a priority to find a solution that meets Dr Lawson's requirements.
The housing authority 'Plus Dane Housing' says it has confirmed funding to pay for any adaptations to her house with the local authority and is currently awaiting further instructions.
