A new plan to redevelop Leicester's historic market place has been put forward by some of the market traders themselves.

They were concerned that Leicester City Council might abandon plans to return them to the site after a seven-and a half million pound redevelopment was paused in May.

City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said he was considering calls to keep the area as an open space, after it was cleared for the revamp. But he says he's now looking at the traders' idea.
