'I never thought I'd be the one needing support'
The countdown is on for our Make a Difference awards in September – celebrating people in Leicestershire and Rutland who go above and beyond.
We’ve had hundreds of nominations - and every week until the big day you can hear some of the stories behind the finalists.
All this week, we're meeting the nominees in the fundraiser category. This is awarded to an individual or group of people who have gone the extra mile to raise funds for a good cause.
Four years ago Gemma Orton became the chairman of the Bodie Hodges Foundation, having been heavily involved with the charity as a fundraiser. But then just two years later a tragedy struck Gemma's family that meant she had to turn to Bodie Hodges for support herself.
Gemma's story is not easy to hear, but this amazing woman has shown how you can continue to inspire through the darkest times. She told Matt Smith her story.
