Loughborough and Hinckley to lose Cineworld

Cineworld has announced plans to close six cinemas across the UK as part of a wide-ranging restructuring plan, including Hinckley and Loughborough.

Part of the world's second largest cinema chain, the business - which has 101 locations in the UK and Ireland - has struggled since the Covid pandemic and with the rise in streaming services. Cineworld entered administration in July 2023 while struggling with a debt pile estimated to be almost 拢4 billion.

Cineworld said affected staff had been contacted to begin a consultation process and that they hoped to be able to redeploy as many people as possible.

People in Hinckley give their reaction to the announcement to Kevin Ncube, and retail expert Professor Sarah Montano tells Ady Dayman what impact she thinks this will have.
