Soaring NHS dentist waiting lists in Rutland
Soaring NHS waiting lists for dentists in Rutland have seen some people there switching to private dentists.
People living in the county are being told they'll have to wait until next year to access new NHS services. It comes after a major provider in Oakham pulled out two years ago. Healthwatch Rutland has now raised the issue with councillors at County Hall.
We've been to Oakham to hear about your experiences when it comes to accessing a dentist, and Dr Janet Underwood who chairs the local HealthWatch Group, spoke to Political Reporter Tim Parker about the situation.
In a statement the NHS locally says 'We are set to begin a procurement process to introduce more NHS dental provision for Rutland. Due to procurement regulations this may take up to 3 months to conclude. We have also carried out a local Oral Health Needs Assessment, which is set to be approved in August, and this will inform future provision of NHS dental services across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.'
