MBE for huge contribution to heritage conservation
In 2024's New Year's Honours Nicholas Hill has been awarded an MBE for services to Heritage.
Nicholas has successfully led some of the most challenging and prominent heritage conservation and restoration projects in England.
For 30 years Nicholas has been recording and researching buildings in Leicestershire. His published articles include studies of Oakham Castle and Northborough Manor.
His leadership of the restoration at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings is the highlight of a long career. The grade 1 listed 1797 Main Mill at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings has a pioneering iron frame, making it the grandparent of skyscrapers.
Previously, he worked on various sites across the Midlands and led the 10-year repair project at Apethorpe Palace.
Nicholas tells Chance Litchfield how he feels about the honour.
