‘Last country on earth without national football team’ launch first kit
Marshall Islands moved a step closer to their first ever national football team
“Small nation, big heart, big kit”, that’s how Marshall Islands announced their new football kit.
They are the last country in the world without a national football team, but, as the country’s football technical director Lloyd Owers tells Sportshour’s Caroline Barker, that is soon to change.
They’re working towards playing their first international match in 2024, and they now have their first kit, designed by an Argentinian designer following a worldwide fan-led competition.
The kit was sold in over 30 different countries within the first few days of being released.
The Marshall Islands Soccer Federation technical director has recently returned from his first visit to Marshall Islands, a trip which included the islands’ first football sessions, the launch of the first Marshall Islands Futsal League and adding football onto the national curriculum.
Marshall Islands has a population of around 60,000 people, and is comprised of five islands and 29 atolls (coral reef islands) in the Pacific Ocean.
