Ahmed Douma: Am I going to be treated for the devastating psychological effects of prison?
Ahmed Douma is a well-known blogger in Egypt. Or rather, was a well-known blogger. He's spent years in prison, years in solitary confinement, detained by successive administrations for his activism. On Saturday he was suddenly released - pardoned by President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi - along with a number of other prisoners. Some observers point to the forthcoming decision by the US State Department over whether to give the cash-strapped Egyptian government hundreds of millions of dollars of aid. Rights groups say that, come what may, tens of thousands of what they say are 'political prisoners' remain in jail. Ahmed Douma had a reputation, as an activist in his twenties, of being vibrant, charismatic, energetic. You'll hear a different voice now, after almost ten years in prison.
