AI at Wimbledon - The new sound of commentary?
Both male and female-sounding AI commentators are set to feature but the voices will have no human input - they'll be created solely from computers.
Wimbledon is not only lawn tennis’ biggest and oldest tournament – but it's also a festival full of quintessentially British traditions – strawberries and cream, the strict all-white dress code and Royal patronage. And since it was first televised in 1937, the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ and other broadcasters have been providing expert commentary of the big matches. But coverage of the outlying courts remains mostly silent. Well - that's all about to change, thanks to artificial intelligence. For this episode of our podcast, 5 Minutes On - the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's Technology Reporter, Shiona McCallum, has been behind the scenes at the All England Club.
