Windrush 75 - from Trinidad to Leicester
Commemorations are underway to mark 75 years since the Empire Windrush landed on British shores.
The ship the Windrush signifies for many the start of mass migration from the Caribbean - where people were encouraged to move to Britain to help rebuild the country post-war, and in return, were given a permanent right to live and work in the UK.
But whilst remembering the contributions made to Britain of that generation, we cannot ignore what's become known as the Windrush scandal - where hundreds of Caribbeans found themselves stateless, denied passports and deported.
Emunah Yishiba Gavriel聽came to Leicester in 1979 from Trinidad via Europe to become a psychiatric nurse.
Like many hundreds of others of her generation, she gradually realised that after a series of home office blunders, she had ceased to exist in the eyes of the state.
She's been telling her story to 成人快手 Radio Leicester's Jo Hollis.
