Windrush 75: Who were the 'Barrel Children'?
Because of the expense of foreign travel, finding a home and a job, coming to England for the Windrush Generation was done in stages.
Usually fathers came to the UK first and in many cases it took months or even years for their wives to follow and the children would often be the last to join.
The term Barrel Child refers to the barrels filled with gifts and household goods sent from Britain to their children who were being looked after by relatives back home.
