How did Boris Johnson go from landslide general election victory in 2019 to resigning as an MP in 2023? Helen Catt considers the rise and fall of the former prime minister.
When Boris Johnson was chosen to lead the Conservatives - becoming prime minister in the process - many within his party regarded him as their saviour. This charismatic politician - seemingly capable of connecting with voters and presenting an optimistic vision of a thriving post-Brexit Britain - was surely electoral gold. Their hopes were realised when he led them to victory in the 2019 election with a sizeable majority.
But things began to unravel fast. He was out of Downing Street within three years and out of The Commons within four. So, how did it come to this?
