Why limit breaking high temperatures are becoming more likely than ever
Scientists have issued warnings about how fast our planet is heating up. It comes from the World Meteorological Organisation, the UN agency that deals with climate and weather.
In their annual report, the agency's scientists said there's now a 66% chance the world will pass the 1.5C global warming threshold between now and 2027.
The 1.5C figure has become a symbol of global climate change negotiations where countries agreed to "pursue efforts" to limit global temperature rises to 1.5C under the 2015 Paris agreement.
Dramatic cuts to emissions of gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, produced by burning fossil fuels, are key to achieving that goal.
WMO climate director Dr Christopher Hewitt explains what is happening.
