He is arguably the most powerful media boss in the world. Rupert Murdoch's empire - including his US TV channel Fox News - wield huge influence over those who are in – and want to be in – high office. Many say he has the ability to make or break even the most powerful world leaders.

It was something of a shock then when Fox News made the last minute decision to settle a landmark defamation case, and pay the voting technology company Dominion $787.5m. It all happened just moments before the trial was supposed to begin.

So how did we get here, and what does this latest development mean for the powerful Murdoch brand in the US and around the world?
