Photography prize winner turns out to be AI creation
German artist Boris Eldagsen's entry, entitled Pseudomnesia: The Electrician, won the creative open category at last week's Sony World Photography Award.
The image in question showed a haunting black-and-white portrait of two women from different generations. Eldagsen has since refused his prize after revealing his work was created using artificial intelligence.
Speaking to Newshour, he says he wants to start a conversation about AI generated photography out of concern for the future of human made art and photography: "This is another art form... Are competitions aware that people are going to hand in AI generated images."
