Why the new Winnie the Pooh film isn't showing in Hong Kong
The new Winnie the Pooh horror movie "Blood and Honey" has been restricted in Hong Kong and Macau. Its director has said that cinemas in Hong Kong and Macau initially agreed to show it, but then all said they had changed their minds, citing technical reasons.
But, for several years, censors in China have clamped down on references to the fictional children's character Winne the Pooh. The reason seems to be unflattering comparisons made on social media between the appearance of the rather bumbling and portly bear and China's president Xi Jinping.
Anna Kwok, the Hong Kong Democracy Council's executive director told Newshour's Rob Young how references to Winnie the Pooh have became a popular way of referring to Xi Jinping amidst crackdowns that are affecting the language people use.
