Olympic bronze medallist Sky Brown has become Great Britain's first skateboarding world champion at the age of 14.
Sky Brown has become Great Britain's first skateboarding world champion at the age of 14. She won gold in park skateboarding at the World Championships in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, with a best score of 90.83 from her three runs. Brown became Great Britain's youngest Olympic medal winner of all time when she won park bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Games at the age of 13. Going professional at age 10, Brown has grown up in the limelight, and has a large following on social media. She has a YouTube channel with her brother, Ocean, and a video of her went viral at four years old when her father, Stu, posted a clip of her skateboarding to Facebook.
Rob Bannister is the founder of the House skateboarding park in Sheffield, England. He told Newshour that the British skateboard community knew Sky was going to be special from a young age.
He said: "We've had a lot of women get into skating in the last few years, but her presence as being a really big name on the international scene is definitely helping. It's certainly inspiring some of the younger ones to go, 'maybe this isn't just for the boys, we can have a go ourselves.'"
