Hanif Kureishi: 'I really felt I was going to die'
The Oscar-nominated screenwriter Hanif Kureishi has told the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ he "saw death" after being paralysed following a fall in December.
The award-winning author of My Beautiful Laundrette and The Buddha of Suburbia fell while on holiday in Rome on Boxing Day.
The episode left him unable to move his arms and legs.
"I saw Death; Death was chattering to me" he says, convinced he was going to die, and said he wanted to video-call his children to say goodbye, but was persuaded against it by his girlfriend, Isabella D'Amico.
He eluded death but is now learning to live with his transformed circumstances.
In his first international broadcast interview, he told Newshour 's Razia Iqbal how his life has changed.
