American football player in critical condition after on-field cardiac arrest
Damar Hamlin, a 24-year-old American football player for the Buffalo Bills, fell to the ground after colliding with an opponent during the first quarter of an NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
In a statement, his team later said he had suffered a cardiac arrest, and that his heartbeat was restored on the field.
The NFL suspended the game for the night about an hour after the incident.
Nick Hamilton is a reporter and US radio host who was watching the game on television. He says that, while Hamlin's condition is now improving, at the time of the incident: "Players were crying. They were in shock."
