Iran: Investigation into brutal youth punishment by security forces and judiciary
Protests sparked by the death in police custody of Mahsa Amini in Iran continue apace. This week, demonstrators crowded the streets of Tehran, Mashdad and Isfahan. The UN says 14,000 protesters have now been arrested.
A huge portion of protesters are made up of young people - from university students to schoolgirls.
Farnaz Fassihi of the New York Times has been investigating reports of Iranian youth and children - aged 18 and under - being punished by security forces and the judiciary.
"What we found was a systematic crackdown on youth and children that involves shooting and killing them in protest, beating them to death, detaining them with adult inmates in adult prison, torturing them, many have suffered broken bones under detention, some have disappeared altogether."
